The front yard fluers

The garden grows well as summer is evidently still with us despite the shorter days and occasional cool blustery and foggy day. We are enjoying the recent heat and sun again and it appears that more of the many tomatoes will ripen on the vine before they fill our sills to redden. Not many apples this year but the root veg and greens produced a bountiful harvest and continue to find their way into many meals. Jonah is well and so is Laish. I expect the yard's hibernation to be more pronounced this year and our attention to be soon turned towards the inside and do-it-yourself home improvement projects that we're both looking forward to completing. Hope the season finds you well and with your own harvests to enjoy!

six weeks of wonder

well the days are full and quick and sleep is fast it seems since not long ago a full night's was taken for granted, now taken for normal, which keeps on changing. i can get into this i was thinking and now i am and although all could not have been anticipated life is sweet and full of wonder...

today marks the end of 6th week of lil jones' being here with us, the end of an era kinda ? well, maybe not really since what i read and know about these things, which isn't all that much, is that change is perpetual, sometimes gradual and unexpected or fast and anticipated but as in any great event the challenges are forthcoming and generally fruitful so, i wonder away and look forward to the day that i will kick the ball, walk the links or simply enjoy a big juicy ok peach together. speaking of frooits, several of my time-rendering projects around the yard now have lots to show for it...

the clothes line is up like a charm for all the "fuzzi bunz" were plowing through these days thank you Anastasia for sending us so many as we've needed...

one afternoon while working on the playhouse patio with Lorne these things appeared on the side of the deck, at first i was quite startled then tickled to have had them here to see, i think they are long-lost cousins of this one that showed up at Klay's one day. i guess they are Saturniid moths of the silky moth family not as fuzzy and the fuzzer above though - ooh! who's that? fuzzy cuteness.

so jonah has had, i believe, 6 great weeks of life thus far. he's had 3 of his 4 grandparents here to visit and love him up; Lorne and Lorna just days after his birth and Jessie more recently also spent a week with us. He's had of course many "firsts", which now litter the calendar Tara made for us and soon he'll meet many more of you as we decend first on Edmonton for Laisha's family affair next weekend then the Seymour clan's gathering in Clearwater the week after, looking forward to seeing you all...

The greatest gift

Today was both Mom and babe's birthday! Laisha and our son, Jonah Alexander Rosnau Deans are well after a successful home birth at 04:02 this morning! Jonah weighed in at 8lbs. 7.3oz. and a longish ~54cm (21 1/4").

Often Saturday mornings are reserved for sleeping in long, hard, and deep, usually until Laisha returns from pilates but on this particular day wakefulnes came early with the birds, lawn mower, rake, and when it seemed more appropriate to do so construction. I was able to get the majority of boards cut before washing the car and heading for the field and the season "ice breaker"

Earlier this week Laisha reminded me that a small human is arriving soon and the deck needed to be finished for safety. Well, as fate would have it turns out that I had already given it some thought. Perhaps all I needed was the kind encouragement and incentive that I was looking for. So, after some shop-night discussions with the guys on Wednesday and a late-night-site visit, I had a plan. Or, well at least I had solid idea and so I went to hd and cleared out their stock of coastal wrc. First, I skimmed the cream off the 6' pile then picked through the 4's to make up the difference of board feet that I knew I needed. Although we still have not sold the truck, I decided to take the Volvo anyways, with its roof rack to carry and tie-down straps ready.

It was great to have had Travis assist as much with his chop saw and extra drill to see it to the finish line so quickly...

...so now that the deck is done, I been thinking a whole lot more about cedar and the raised beds that I am going to make so as to have somewhere to put all these little things. Here is the cherry tomatoe congregation in the nursery late last month, I think one of them seedlings knew something about the light that the others were intent on finding out as well... or, maybe they were speculating on the bassinet behind. In any event, these little ones have all gone greener with brighter lights, pot ups and lavender understories.

I am using peat pellets for indoor seedling starts this year - they're interesting and kind of remind me of those lil bath critters that grow 1000x their original size into alligators and frogs and such.

...ok, these ones only grow about 5x and are not slimy but you know what I am talking about.

Here's to harvests plenty and golden cherries and summertime!

I'm in awe of all the rituals that you bathe yourself in these days to find comfort and strength to endure the upswelling growth and transformation, sure you say that it is the bebe in there who is in need of no other way but it is you who listens, stretching through the too often surprising discomfort. You make new to grin through your commitment. Always with joy you have more to give to the love inside you, the fuzzer beside you, and the husband who adores you.

What a great Christmas holiday we had in the presence of many friends and family this year. Laisha and I were in Vernon for the first week of winter fun in the sunshine and snow.

We hiked

and skiied

and made perogies!

Our journey continued from the interior to Vancouver on Christmas day for another full week.

The evening we arrived we all enjoyed a delicious and festive feast at Tara's,

everyone except Cohen that is, who eat before we did...

we had a restful stay with Nancy and John in Richmond,

went shopping at Ikea one day,

and I got to see the Canucks play!

The roads were clear and bare for smooth driving in every way

our return on New Year's eve we had a great stay

at a bed,

and breakfast on Sheridan bay hooray!

New England Fall: Part One

Today the crisp autumn air is ripe with fall and leaves of departure. Laisha and I are on our way to Boston this afternoon to spend three more days here on the east coast before we return to PG on Tuesday. Some of the highlights include our recent overnight trip to southern coastal Maine, an attraction- and food-filled weekend with Milan in NYC, several day trips with Anastasia, Doug and Oscar throughout coastal Rhode Island, and fishing on their 54' Striker.

It's not rocket science, Einstein...enough of any substance of quality that imparts identity and vitality is one's own hidden ingredient; it is, in essence, only natural and contained inside the otherwise solid, human animal or plant, therefore extraction needs to happen to utilize it and fill one's own true core with goodness.

how easy it is at times to be careless with what we say or do...funny that we can spent as long sometimes confabulating (need vs. want vs. wish) as forgetting our tendency to appreciate the essence of healthy relations, although it would appear there are definable fundamental ingredients to our own growth through time.

All this one needs first is the challenge and circumstance to see things a little differently; its been said one thing that's a "for sure" is change afterall; evolution is not, but that too could be encountered once chance, and change, including the fraughtful, is an acceptable part of one's own perspective

...be it through one's own experience which inspires an interest, one's own meaning of "be the ball" becomes us and we are most effective to kindle and nuture the kind of support we ourselves and each other need, want and wish for...

You’re one of the lucky one’s if when not given the choice anyway you adapt to whatever just happened to create that which just changed – it’s hard enough sometimes getting used to being forced to see things differently, let alone getting used to 'the difference' itself...without questioning how long any change lasts, or defining the cost with regards to our mind's eye for better or for worse...

...like so many ‘eyes' view’ still not yet familiar to us, we choose to see it how we do,

or if when we accept the sensation as it is told on the tube or on the page (like this bolg hist) the mind sleeps without a true intent to explore one's own imagination - if we do not choose then we begin to imagine less until something is lost or worse

...and yet only when we see through situations ourselves completely, do the real-life human fictional qualities become clear enough to straighten one's own new mind's eye - benefits all-right-round, even the gentleman considering his lesser fortune from the sidewalk watching reflections of life passing him by benefits...

To deal with change

Evidently, we all have to deal with change in our lives. Sometimes we choose - other times we're not so lucky. We assess, learn, focus, adjust, re-assess, re-focus and move slowly forward at times - these times of renewal, contemplation, rumination, are very significant processes. It is during this time which we determine our direction, the trajectory for our next best growth potential and picture the surroundings in which we see ourselves. It is said that pleasure is found in the journey to distant places. are you here? where is the enjoyment? Apparently, misery is always there, never requiring pursuit. As the imagination is employed the journey begins anew. To manifest reality is to strive towards ones goals. However the goal-oreinted world attempts distraction from one's goals, when we choose to do less with our time, such distractions take the sideline. So as I dare to imagine a different world, I persecute myself to blindness while I assess and re-direct my focus on what is most important as well as accessible. The place in that world I perceive I am requires more will, determination, compassion, zeal, and progress then ever I've perceived before, and I have to believe, I am ready...

Among those who carry old habits that seem to take never along for a change – this is a story Dave shared with me during one of our first and last visits together. He said, "One well intentioned volunteer, after a full day of collecting garbage and a great wrap-up bush party barbeque", while on their way back to town, "tossed the expired cokepop can (he had just polished off), out the window of his truck!" Well, for Dave, everything just then came abruptly to a full-stop.

You could see it in his eyes.

Staring back at him from across the cab was the perplexed 57 year old man who, obviously oblivious to what just happened, wondered, had Dave forgot something back there?...

In disbelief, and short of breath, Dave tried hard to forget what he just had to bear witness, as he slowly began to drive again, he was silent, and tired

and looking forward to being home after a full day of dealing with other person’s dispositions. Tomorrow was a new today afterall and you never know? Things Could Change.

Want to stretch your body a minute through a little fuller range of motion?...how about your mind ? for a moment... go ahead stretch it - Think about the ways that you move through your day and define the muscle tissues that's yours to use (e.g., your brain). Now, slowly move beyond your last greatest extention... did you know that something significant can happen just then when your reaction changes. Beyond the range you choose you see things a little differently.

Is it, do you think, possible to think things through a fuller breadth of perspective with the mind already set?

Perhaps it is only when the benefits of the more opened mind are experienced that we choose to move through to change what we can with our own new found grace and confidence ?

I practice moving through the day with a little greater awareness of my intent, especially when my actions support the mind that strives to learn to see the world through a little wider lense - Evidently, it is said, our synaptic reflex does move us through a little greater range of motion each and every time we stretch it...
